Congratulations!
You are ready for seventh grade! This packet includes a list of suggested books for you to
choose from as you complete your summer reading, as well as the summer reading assignment. You are only required to read and complete the assignment for one book. However, you are encouraged to read as much and as often as possible! The goal of summer reading is to enhance the skills you learned throughout the year and to prepare you for the seventh grade curriculum. It is important to continue reading for fun. You often read to learn new things, which helps you build upon what you already know by reading more. Reading for fun helps you do that. It helps you strengthen vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. It also empowers you to learn many lessons about life. For that reason, the book you select is completely your choice. If there is not a book on the list that you want to read, you may select one that is more suited to your interests. The only requirement is that you have not read the book previously at any point.
Also, make sure you take some time to show your parents what you are reading. You never
know, your parents may even want to read the books with you! It can be fun to dialogue together about what you are reading. Enjoy your summer filled with many experiences with your families. We can’t wait to see you in the fall!
